Signs & Symbols

Wherever we live, we are surrounded by signs and symbols. We can open up to a world that is infinitely richer and more rewarding when we understand their meaning.

We help you to explore the philosophical and metaphysical meanings of what is around you in your day-to-day life, leading you to a greater understanding of yourself and your world.

What is a Sign?

A sign has a straightforward purpose - it may be written or visual such as a street sign or marketing advertisement of a product. Signs give us a simple message that is of an immediate momentary relevance.

What is a Symbol?

A symbol is a vision or sign that represents an idea. In seeing objects in a symbolic way you can increase your awareness of day-to-day living and see a deeper truth. A ladder, for example, can be seen as a tool as well as interpreted as a symbol of the communication between the spiritual and physical worlds, or between the conscious and unconscious self.

Do you hear the same song on the radio? Do you see feathers everywhere? Why do you have that same dream night after night?

You may see such recurring signs & symbols – the things that grab your attention are there to provide you with a particular message. Find out what that message is...

The Horse is the symbol of nobility, speed, freedom & beauty, and is widely associated with conquering power. In the ancient world it was the emblem of the life force and linked to sun & sky Gods. A galloping horse is seen as a messenger so be aware of any other relevant signs and symbols that appear with the horse.

The Feather is a symbol of protection and courage. They are representative of the presence of Angels and Guardians around you enabling you the safety and protection to move forward with courage and confidence.

Earth represents global unity with “Mother Earth” being a figure of sustenance, nurturing and the source of all life. It is bound up with identity, nationhood and life itself.

Fire has a dual personality: it is symbolic of war & chaos but also of purification & regeneration, home, hearth and divine love. When people learned how to make fire, it was life-changing.

Water constantly changes shape and transforms. It is usually associated with the moon and, as the origin of all life, with fertility. The sea can represent the unconscious mind, whilst a lake represents peace and contemplation since its surface presents a reflection. A river signifies fertility, the creative power of nature, yet it is also a metaphor for the passage of time – a river flows from its source to the sea as life flows from birth to death.

Air is represented by the weather. Wind has become a symbol of change and freedom whilst pink clouds can symbolize good luck and happiness - “pink sky at night, shepherd’s delight”. Fog & mist are commonly used to symbolize a state of mind just before a revelation or enlightening thought. “Having your head in the clouds” is linked to being out of touch with reality and the world around you.
